Assessment for the ATHE Level 3 Award in Education and Training is based on the creation of a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates how each learner has achieved the required learning outcomes and assessment criteria for every unit. The learning outcomes and assessment criteria clearly define what evidence is needed, and learners are expected to gather a range of supporting materials that show both knowledge and practical understanding. This portfolio approach ensures that assessment is continuous, structured, and directly linked to real teaching and learning activities.
Evidence within the portfolio may include assessor observation records with completed checklists, witness testimonies, worksheets, assignments, projects, and reports. Learners may also provide journals or reflective diaries, records of professional discussions, oral and written questioning, peer or candidate reports, and evidence of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) where applicable. For the unit on inclusive teaching and learning approaches, learners must complete a minimum of one hour of microteaching, including at least one 15-minute observed teaching session, with the remaining time used for additional delivery or peer observation and reflection included in the portfolio.

What is ATHE?
ATHE (Awards for Training and Higher Education) is an Ofqual-regulated awarding with reference number 5344. It works to maintain high standards in vocational and higher education qualifications. ATHE ensures that qualifications are designed, assessed, and delivered with quality assurance processes that support learner progression into higher study and employment.
Learners can complete this qualification in a minimum of 6 months, depending on their study pace and availability. Full access to the online learning platform is provided for 12 months from the date of enrolment. This flexible learning window allows learners to finish the course at any point within the 6 to 12-month period.
