The assessment for the Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate is designed to evaluate both knowledge-based and skills-based learning outcomes, ensuring that learners meet the required standards for competence in adult care.

Learning outcomes that assess knowledge and understanding, which often begin with terms like “understand” or “know how to,” will be assessed through a variety of methods. These include internally set and marked written assignments, tasks, records of oral or written questions, workbooks, or other portfolio evidence.

Learning outcomes that require the demonstration of practical skills, typically starting with “be able to,” will be assessed through direct observation in real work settings. Assessors will observe the learner performing relevant tasks during their normal work activities to confirm workplace competence. This observation will be carried out over an appropriate period of time to ensure a comprehensive assessment of the learner’s practical abilities. Where real work evidence is not available during the qualification period, alternative evidence demonstrating that the learner would be able to perform the task in practice is acceptable. Alternative evidences may include:

. Recordings of sessions conducted in your workplace.

. Testimonies signed by your manager. (A testimony is a formal statement from your manager confirming your experience and skills demonstrated in your work setting).

. Relevant work products, such as care plans, meeting minutes, etc.

. One-to-one discussions on different relevant topics, conducted online via Zoom or a similar platform.

In cases where simulation is permitted or required, the details will be provided in the unit specifications or the assessment principles document. However, practical assessments must, wherever possible, reflect the learner’s actual work environment.
